Thanked: 522Tumbled and Re-scaled Grevemeyer
This antique shop find is a W H Grevemeyer
of Philadelphia "KEEN EDGE" that I tumbled because sanding might have destroyed the KeenEdge etching on the blade.
I re-scaled it with SRD faux ivory, then honed it. This blade took a great edge and shaves like a dream. Original cost was $10 + the scales.
My scales of choice are usually the black ebonywood from SRD but they are not presently available. I have blocks of ebonywood, cocobola and sycamore wood that I will cut up for re-scaling this winter. The sycamore will make nice contrasting wedges for the ebony and the cocobola.
That's a stainless washer plus brass washer and brass pin on the hinge with nylon washers between the scales and the blade..
The best attribute of this blade is the great edge it takes.Last edited by mrsell63; 07-20-2010 at 05:30 AM.

Nice!
I like the shape of that blade, is it half hollow?

Thanked: 1936Very nice! I've tried nylon washers and they were "too slippery" no matter how tight I got the pin...have you had this experience? I went back to using brass & hole punch.

Thank you and God Bless, Scott

Thanked: 4249Here some information about William H Grevemeyer, he strated his business venture with the brothers Carey ( Davis & Theo) in 1881 at 817 market St selling Book and Stationary.
At the turn of the century, it seems like William was on his own as W.H. Grevemeyer & co, selling books, stationary, manufacturer of window shades and also listed as an Importer,at 1027 market st, im assuming that is it during that period that he was selling razors made for his company bearing his name.
Didnt find to many razors with his company name, thinking it is somewhat rare, early 1900's possibly made in germany for him.

Thanked: 522I checked the stampings on my W H Grevemeyer and the front is etched W H Grevemeyer Phila. PA with no mfg. stamping on the back side of the tang.
Is this an indication of it being made in Phila. PA? If it was made after 1897, should it not have the country of origin stamped on it? Just wondering..................JERRY
