Default HUGE!!! 9/8 W&B in Ocean Mist Acrylic

Our very own Ogershok sent this one out for a make over..
Not really in too bad a shape, at all, found some pretty good bug bites in the old scales...
Then once I pop it loose, the inside is a bit worse, you can see the active rust and the deterioration of the scales now...

First thing I do is buff out the blade, but not to far as I could have, as I wanted to keep the etch and of course "Murphy's Law of Restore" kicks in... That states that "The depth of the pitting will always be just deeper than the depth of the etch:

Now on these next two shots I am just proving a point...

So here is this big ole' Chopper balancing in it's original set of scales, as it was designed, by W&B, and balancing again, in the new set of scales as I designed them... See I didn't make this stuff up, and who am I to say they were wrong back then, most every vintage razor will balance, try it yourself... Yes, even the big huge Choppers will...

PS: Yes that is exactly what the nail is there for, so I can check balance as I work...

All shined up a ready for the hones ,,,
I used Tri-metal stacked washers and Nickel Silver pins, I did have to sleeve the pivot hole it was a bit oversize as you can see in the pics,,, the wedge is Pearl acrylic

    Great work Glen,

Not taking the etching away is a huge ++. Much better than i thought after seeing the before pics. Nice scales too. I think there is not much blades of that sizes waiting for someone to pick them.

Great work Glen. It looks really nice, and I was hoping to see the balance pic.

Somebody has to ask the obvious question - have you considering publishing a "book on a CD format"? There's money to be made with those nails and other restoration tips.

The big question is, where do you get one of THOSE nails!
