Bob your work has a very distintive style that makes a razor look formidable and visually stunning.
Ian, I'm based in the uk and I think I could make a razor, I've just finished my first (frameback). http://straightrazorpalace.com/forge...g-razor-6.html
I'd have to gear up and speed up.
I've learned what I have so far mainly from Bob and his tutorials, though I've got hell of a long way to go before I'm even close to Bob's quality.

i've just taken a look at the one you made absolutly great work. My plan was to get something nice for my son's 21st in December but it looks like an ebay razor might have to do as i dont have bottomless pockets ....

I am a knife maker but time to time I make Japanese razors and soon I will be offering a traditional western straight razor.
    Kind regards

    Thorxes,

Have you ever tried an 8/8"? Before I'd shaved with one I had the same thoughts as you. I guess I was afraid that a larger razor would be "clunky" and hard to handle, especially considering I my face has rather angular features. I was also concerned about the width being a problem high on my face as I often shave with my glasses on.

However, this is not the case. I've shaved with Bob's razors and with an 8/8 Zowada also. They are impeccably balanced works of art and very easy to handle in my experience.

Obviously, razor widths and styles are a matter of personal preference. Most of my other razors are 6/8 and I love them too, but I'm developing a preference for the big boys.

Bob is a true gentleman and is very approachable! Just shoot him a PM and ask if he'd be willing to make you something smaller if you prefer narrower blades.

I've actually had a 6/8" Dovo honed by one of SRP's very own honemeisters, and it shaved AMAZINGLY on my cheeks. Definitely a great standard to hold all my other razors to.

The problem came with my neck and all the nooks and crannies in addition the the weird and changing directions that my hair grows in.

I've only shaved with that razor twice since getting it back. Once I got a 4/8" razor I was restoring up to the same level of sharpness, my neck was no longer an issue.

I'm quite sad though, the Dovo is an absolutely gorgeous blade. So pretty to look at, and it gives a BBS with minimal effort. Now I'm not sure what to do with it.

Though I'll take your word for it and if I ever run into an 8/8" I'll definitely give it a try and see if maybe it handles differently than the 6/8".
