Tuxedo Bokers
Ok, this will be my last "Hey, look! I can make scales!" post for a while.
I had one of these for a while, but the scales were broken. The other I just got recently. I thought it would be fun to make a set of identical scales, based on the originals. It was actually easier than I thought; I just micro-fastened all four scales together for the shaping process.
I'm pretty happy with the method I'm using to bevel the edges now, but I need to pay closer attention when I'm doing the hand sanding to take out the marks. I think I did a better job with my wedge pin location (thanks, Glen), though I definitely made one of the wedges smaller and wider than I'd have liked. In other words, I think I have the basic process down, but need to work on the final finish.
I haven't pinned the razors yet, because I'm not exactly sure what I'd like to do with them.

Thanked: 240Very nice I'm looking to have something similiar done with matching blades once they arrive, though I'm thinking bone and ebony (entitled "ying-yang") I really like the idea of contrasting colors on a matched pair though I never thought about alternating wedges. Definitely something to think about while I await my blades arrival and then figuring out who can do the work. But I'm drifting off topic, thanks for the pics they look great and really let me put a picture to something I was thinking about for a while now.

Thanked: 983I'd remake the white wedge...I wouldn't be satisfied until both razors scales were visually perfect...Providing you plan on making the scales a permanent fixture to those blades.
When I made my first whip, I took it to a professional whip maker who said he'd be willing to check over my work. He gave me a few points of advice regarding what I'd done, and then said, "Right! Let's pull it apart so you can start again." I must have re-made that first whip five times before he was satisfied. My hands were having there own little cramp spasms and were covered in blisters by the end of it all.
Not saying you should spend an entire day just making up little wedges...but if that is what it takes...

Did the original scales have a weird foam cushion inside them for the blade? If so, I have the same razor and they're really nice shavers.
