Default Two From This Past Week

    1. Giraffe bone with bark - horn and SS wedge -W&B 8/8 Barbers Use blade. It was difficult finding and cutting 2 alike straight pieces with bark.

    2. Buckeye burl with Crown and Sword blade. Green horn wedge and finished with 6 coats of tung oil then buffed. There were a few voids that had to be filled with epoxy before I cut the scales ergo the gray spots.

    Hope you like these...

Love the giraffe scales!! Where by chance do you get blanks of these in 6" length?

lol .... I cut them from a 20 pound collar bone. I spent the better part of 3 hours cutting the thing up.

Very nicely done, The Buckeye burl is intriguing!

Very beautiful work. Ou of curiosity, why new scales for the W&B but not buff out the blade?

I have a few old big blades that are in pretty good condition that I feel have "character". No pitting and very little staining; mostly patina. Once they are buffed out or sanded out, you can't get that patina back. And truthfully, a blade like I just described does not need to be reconditioned.

My thought was that the gray of the blade was a good contrast to the white color and texture of the bone. I was hoping some of the guys looking in would give me their opinion. I'm glad you asked.

I like the patina left on. The blade and bone are complementary color patterns, and contrasting just right so as they belong to each other.
    Nice jobs!
