Default Ying and Yang, Matching Japanise ground Solgen in ebony and bone

These are a matched pair of Solgen razors ground in Japan. They are short blades but feel good in the hand. It was a straight rescale, no buffing. The blades are engraved Solgen Real Japaniese Hollow Ground.

The original scales had cracks in the pivot pin. The owner wanted ying yang effect in the scales. One set to be ebony and the other to be bone. I gave the scales a heavy bow so when the blade is closed, the word Solgen is visible above the scales. The bows also mimic the curved symmetrical shape of the Ying Yang symbol. The end of the blade has an unusual angle cut then they square off so I cut the end of the scales to match the angle of the blade cut that protrudes above the scale. That allows the eye to flow along the lines evenly.

The bone started out as a cow femur that got resawn to slabs and the scales cut from it. They are raw unfinished white bone. The Ebony got a high gloss epoxy resin finish to contrast the flat white of the bone. The owner wanted a simple ebony and bone wedge in the corresponding scale. I think they came out quite nice and wish they were my matched set.

Wow! Excellent work! I have one of the "Solgen" razors and I love the way it shaves, but aesthetically, the stock scales are just week.

I really like the bow shape....nice character.

Those look awesome, and I think the heavy bow in the scales accentuates the Yin/Yang concept by making them look more circular when laid spine to spine. Fantastic all around.

Wow, am I a lucky guy or what? A huge thanks to cannonfodder for the excellent rescale and to JimR for making these razors available. As stated in the above post these razors where both sold "as is" with cracked scales so I went into it thinking of a rescale idea. I wanted something that looked like a matched pair yet were not identical and thought a contrasting set would work well. Clearly they turned out much better than I could have expected

You are a lucky guy to have two of those beauties! The theme is perfect for
those blades. Superb work! I love my "Solgen" and am grateful Jim made them available.
