I wouldn't give up on it yet. I just did a rescale that I was very upset with and couldn't strop, but my wife wouldn't let me trash it and restart. I contacted my buddy, who owned the razor, he said to send it to him. I kept the tracings of the blade just in case he didn't like it (I assumed he wouldn't). He loved the scales, they fit his hands perfectly. he said that it was probably due to my large hands that I couldn't strop it. After stropping he loved the thing.
    Go figure.

Maybe if you added some extensions and then wrapped the new longer handles in leather like Japanese razors it would function better. It's too nice looking to scrap!!

Had my first shave with it today. 2 thumbs down. The handle is too short for a good grip and it is slightly rounded, thus the razor wants to roll in the hand. Not good.
Also this makes it very hard to strop and keep the edge on the leather. The shave was very close but a little rough feeling due to poor stropping on cr-ox and then leather. I never realized how important the scales are to handling, grip and balance.

The short of the long of it is...back to the drawing board

What a shame. Thanks for the honesty Bob, but it really should have a second opinion.
If it helps, send it my way and I'll just confirm that its a piece of crap.

    Lovely work Bob!

Thats a true piece of art, thats for sure..!

Thats a shame it didnt shave so well though. I was thinking the same as rodb, maybe some leather grips around the handle might do the trick?

You could also try putting a piece of rubber or other tacky material around the notched area to see if that helps. I did that with a razor that was giving me fits ( small piece of tennis racket handle winding I had ) and gave me enough grip. Similar to what they have on the Filarmonica Para Barabas.

It would be a shame to let that beauty go to waste.

    Default Make Lemonaid!?

Maybe you can incorporate this into a newer, more elegant design. ? It is stunning just as a piece of art. It all fits together, it may not be complete - yet....
