    Default Busted Bengall in Burl

    This was one of the first razors I ever got my hands on way back before I had even had my first straight shave. It was also the razor which tought me the lesson about power tools and blades...the hard way.
    So after busting the blade at the toe with a drill and a flap wheel, I decided to save it and made some acrylic scales for it. The bat scales were pretty good for a newbie restorer, but awkward to shave with and a ridiculous pain in the butt to strop.
    So now, a couple of years later I decided to re-visit the Bengall and do a quick acrylic rescale, but then Glen posts that tutorial on CA finishes and I decide to give it a try on a piece of Red Cedar Burl that I've had sitting around. Then I decide to re-shape the toe a little, and change the profile of the monkey tail a little and give the whole blade another hand sand from 150 grit up...
    Anyway a couple of weeks later its finished, and for my first ever wood scales, to say I'm happy with the outcome would be an understatement. The wedge is Aluminium, Nickel silver pins with s/steel washers
    Thanks Glen (gssixgun) for the recent tutorial, I had a printed copy on the workbench with me the whole time.

    Yup. Those scales are hot. I haven't done a CA finish yet, but I'm looking at yours and it seems flawless. I love wood scales, they give me a feeling of warmth. I hope we all get to see some more wood scales coming off your bench.

    Very nice save! I'm a big fan of natural materials for scales myself and have to say you did a magnificant job on those.
