Thanked: 0First Attempts at Restoration
Finally got the hardware I needed today to put together my first attempts at restorations (or cleaning up). My basic plan for each was: Wet-sand by hand from 120-2000 grit, vibratory tumbler with almond shell and rubbing compound, then corn cob and polish ( I also went over it by hand at the end).
In terms of the scales:
The Torrey had basic black scales which I proceeded to snap when attempting to tap out the pin. I had seen a razor with interesting lined-cream white scales at a local antique place, so I substituted those in for the ones I broke. Hand sanded these and buffed out. Were in pretty good shape to begin with.
The Joseph Elliot's scales were more beat up than they appear even now. I think they are some sort of horn material, I was hoping someone may be able to verify. I Still wanted to keep them for originality purposes. I sanded them lightly to remove some of the dark buildup. The finish is quite close to mirror.
The Torrey came out real nice, I think. The scales were what I hope is wood and not some horn material. I sanded them lightly to remove some surface defects, and then did the whole CA finish, which really came out great. Nice finish and great shine, looks way better than it did.

Those are some handsome razors, I like how you kept them original looking.

Thanked: 993Love the look of that Torrey and the Worcester. Great job on all the blades. I'm looking forward to seeing more of your work when it comes off the bench!

Congrats on a great start. Good to see the authenticity preserved to
