    Default W&B in Mahogany

Here is a W&B I finished and scaled in mahogany with CA finish and a few coats of wood wax buffed out. The wedge is brass with some filing work on the end. Pins and washers are brass too.

I wanted the washers to have sort of a rough look to them so I sandwiched them between some sandpaper and hammered them on my anvil. I then put a few nicks in them here and there and then domed them before pinning.

Sorry for the quality of the pics. The camera is digital and I'm still trying to learn how to take decent photos. Oh and the coffee... my real passion. Home roasted Colombia Los Galpones.

    Enjoy!

Very nice work. Nice lines on the scales.

Nicely done. My personal preference doesn't generally run to wood scales for reasons that are a mystery to me but I think those look great. How does it shave?

Nice looking scales. I'm partial to wood scales as well.

Great job on the whole thing actually. A very nice looker.

    Looks Nice!

Since Mahogany has an 'Open Grain' did you fill it in or leave it alone? If you filled the grain in, what did you use? Also what did you use for a 'Sealer' or Final coat to help keep any moisture from harming the scales?

    Again! Nice Work!

I didn't fill the grain. I sanded down to 320 grit and then stained it. After a night of letting it dry, I started sealing it with CA. I think I used about 15 coats (I should have used at least 20). After that, I used a paste wax and buffed it all out.

If I could go back and do one thing different though, I'd skip the third pin. It turned into a royal pain. I think because of the angle on the sides of the tang. It really messed with the pin.

I've been busy and haven't finished sharpening it yet. I'm sure that it will be a decent razor though.

    Thanks for the comments.
