    Default Dovo Astrale

This is an example of what happens if a razor is stored a while in damp condition. Even the brass name plate was corroded
Before pics are courtesy of the owner as I almost always neglect that part

Plan was to save all stamps, gold wash, etc as much as possible. Active rust over the gold wash was neutralised with BC's rust & blue remover & blade was unpinned to get at tang rust under the pivot.
Used just about every means at my disposal to clean up various aspects. From 3m's bristle discs for the jimps to a final hand polish with Autosol.

Not a Dovo fan as a rule but the shave from this one is exceptional & was well worth restoring.

It looks Very Nice! Deep Pitting Removal is always a problem it seems! Nice touch on keeping the Gold Wash! Good Job!

That one looked like a real challenge, very nicely done mate. Looks MUCH better now.

Oz, that's phenomenal. 'Would love to hear more about your treatment of the goldwash. The 'B&C didn't hurt the goldwash? 'Never tried it.

'Had an Astrale. I share your assessment, but the Astrale did have top and bottom jimps, and ebony scales, both of which I liked alot.

    Beautiful work. 'Grats.

Thanx pl. No the B&C didn't hurt the gold. I think Aqua Regia is the only chemical that can hurt gold.

Normally I'd mask off the rest of the work & just wait till the rust changes colour then that part's done. The hard part is not sanding or buffing off the gold when cleaning the rest of the blade. Again it pays to mask off as needed.

I'm liking this one. Nice job bringing it back. A dovo was my first, so I'll always have little soft spot for them.

Nice JOB! I would have thought the rust and blue remover would remove the gold wash, but it woke up the color nicely! I know you have lots of work in this one and a fine job, indeed.

    To "OZ"

Pinklather mentioned that he used to have an Astrale. He was kind enough to sell it to me and it does shave great.
    Definitely a good razor..........
