Don't sell yourself short. I think that you did a wonderful job here.
I have always found that a finish is a science, but finishing is an art. As art it varies from time to time, day to day. We all get bad finishes once in a while, but I don't consider this to be the case here you did wonderful and choosing CA is great because it is easily fixed if there is a mistake.
