Default Friedmann and Lauterjun in Box Elder

I didn't see that the scales were cracked when I bought the razor, but I really liked the ergos. Big hands like a shank w/ some size and weight. Scale wood was courtesy of the lovely bride snagging a log from the wood pile before it was converted into heat. This is only a 3rd attempt at scales, so I didn't want anyone to have to look too hard to find flaws, but most are fixable, and its a wonderful shaver. 'Just used washers on hand, instead of proper sized.

Looks good to me! What did you use for a finish? It looks quite smooth and well done.

Really nice work, I like the look of the timber scales. +1 to the finishing question from Maxi (assuming he is asking about the scales), I am looking to make a set of timber scales for a Gotta I picked up yesterday.

I think the washers give it a little more character and visual "strength". Nice work!

Thank You, Gents. I thought doing imperfectly was better than not doing, so I'm sorta feeding my SAD (skills acquisition disorder). The finish is humble CA (super glue). I find it a pita to use, but I like the result. 'Just attempted to follow Glen's (gssixgun) instructions from

Any shortcomings of result are mine, not Glen's.
The last step of using some mildly abrasive automotive rubbing compound is what shows the drama. 'Looks fine up until that point, then you get: 'wow'. I had no liquid rubbing compound, so I tried what I had - Meguire's Cleaner wax. First time, I put some on a 4" dia. buffing wheel in a drill press chuck. This time, I just rubbed by hand - with the same results.
If the thread simply encourages those still learning to try their hand at it, its worth it.

Oz, Thank You! This kinda makes my day, 'cause your work and knowledge is what I hope to do someday. I'll keep at it, with gratitude for your help and the help of others.

Lovely piece of wood you've used, and the finish looks great
