Very cool and very unique. Nice work mate. Can you tell us a little about how you inlaid the coin?

Thanks Grant, sure. I used a forstner bit to drill the holes in the scales and then used CA glue to hold them in place ( I wish I could have gotten the glue line filled completely and I may still tweak them a little bit). Once they dried, I sanded the nickels along with the G10 so the contours would match the scales. My original idea was to use a forstner bit on the back of the scales and then use a smaller forstner bit on the front so you would have a "window" to see through (see pictures below). The problem with this idea was that it felt like the void (gap between top of scales and nickel face) needed to be filled in ( I thought about using epoxy resin, but decided to go the route that I did instead as I wanted the nickels to be shiny and really stand out).

    Back of scales

    Front of scales

    Thanks again!

    Glenn

That is one of my favorite coins. Nice idea to inlay them in the scales. When I was younger I had a belt with a pair of buffalo nickels on it. It was a sad day for me when the belt finally wore out. Hope you enjoy the razor lots when it comes up in your rotation.
