8/8 Dovo 55 French point in Black Ash burl
Now and then a razor comes across my workbench that gets my interest. This Dovo was one of them. I have a lot of razors in my collection and worked on more than a few Dovo's but never added one to my collection, until now. This blade arrived NOS scaled in a cheap set of red plastic scales with a crack in them. The #55 8/8 Dovo is relatively rare. You dont see many big Dovo's so now was the time to add one to the collection.
I wanted something unusual for the scales. I have done a lot diffident burl woods, almost used some jade G10 then I came across some black ash burl and decided to go with that. I gave the scales a generous curve so a good portion of the blade rides above the scales. The burl wood was finished in a high gloss epoxy resin. The pins are 1/16 brass rod with my usual brass over stainless washers and brass thrust bearing. The wedge is Macassar ebony. I honed it up through 30,000 grit and it shaves quite nice. Now I have to make room for it in the display case.

Well now theres yet another razor to add to my wish list... great !
That looks beautiful and I love the scales. The burlwood is as gorgeous as the finish you applied. Love the shape you gave them as well. They really compliment the blade well without taking away from its huge size!
Feel free to send it to me if it disappoints you lol

Beautiful work on the scales, and congratulations on the blade. I have one of these Dovo 55s, and it is a wonderful shaver!
