Thanked: 114Fun in the Garage - New Torrey and Boker
I don’t know if this is the right place to post this, but I wanted to share what I produced in my garage this weekend.
The first razor was a rusty Torrey that came with a broken set of scales. I replaced the scales with a mahogany set with ebony wedge. This was my first CA finish. I think it turned out reasonably well – although it did take a lifetime to complete. I plan to post a “lessons learned” thread in the Workshop sometime this week.
The second razor is a Boker that came with the front scale completely broken into two pieces. Instead of making a new set of scales, I decided to try and repair the broken scale. I used CA to glue the pieces together and then coated the scales with epoxy resin. I was surprised how well this worked. I myself can no longer tell where the break was. This was also my first experience with epoxy resin and I plan to post a lessons learned thread on this razor as well.
Anyhow, thanks for reading.

Wow. I'll second the kudos for nice work. Both should be excellent shavers. That Torrey looks like it might be a 6/8? You'll be loving your shaves. Enjoy & stand proud for doing nice work.

Thanked: 1072They both look great, well done. The CA finish turned out sweet, even more so considering its your first one.

Thanked: 114Thanks for the nice words, gentlemen.
Yes, I like the CA finish as well. I've made other wooden scales but finished them in oil instead. While the oil finish looks nice, it doesn’t provide the same tactile feel as the CA does. The CA finish takes a long while but produces a far more better result in my limited experience.
The experience with these two razors prompted me to start two new sets of CA scales yesterday. I’ll post pictures – hopefully later this week – when they are done.
