Thread: Wostenholm 13/16 Restore

I haven't restored a blade for a long time, normally I've just been sharpening them, shave testing, and keeping if I like, selling if I don't.

This one is still up in the air but I really like Wostenholm razors, they always look great and they're one of the classic old Sheffield razors (interesting note, the razor actually doesn't say Sheffield anywhere as I think most of the Wostenholms do). I've still yet to hone this one up for a shave (to be done later today) but the interesting thing for me is that I haven't had a Wostenholm as hollow as this one before and the cutting edge is about 2.75 inches which is perfect for me. Also, I never did see a bevel on the razor, even before I hand sanded, so it seems possible that it was never used but I can't say for sure.

I do have a nice set of aluminum scales I might throw on this blade if I like it (the current scales are cracked). Or I may finally take my shot at making scales as I have some nice black horn blanks sitting around.

The result is pretty good (for me) considering it was purely handing - not a mirror but it's a reasonable satin so I'm happy.

Is there a possibility of repairing the scales ?

They're stable but the back scale is split in several places across the bottom pin.

I actually think they'll hold up forever unless I abuse the thing but I really like to keep the razors in my rotation looking as good as they can. Plus the horn I have has a nice silver grain to it and it's just asking to be paired with this blade.

That IS a big one for a pipe razor. I am sure it will shave like a dream! Nice job.

Looks great. The blade looks great, as do the scales. I like the though of retaining the original scales for the history (JMHO)
