Default My first attempt at a restoration

This is my first attempt at a razor restoration. It's a Geneva Cutlery Corp. Pyramid Brand that I picked up dirt cheap on ebay. Pictures aren't that great because my camera died so I'm using my phone right now.

Looks good to me! Care to elaborate on what all you did, and anything you learned during the process?

I have a question. If you close the razor and turn it upside down will it open?
I ask because I saw the presta valve cap on the hinge holding the razor open. A tight pivot will stay open with all of my blades that actually are tight. Did you have any issues here? I know some people use a prop if there is one area of slip or as a safety measure and I didn't want to assume.

The restore looks great. Are you planning on putting up better pics at a later date? What are the scales made out of?

Looks like a great shaver (or my current preference, anyway). How does it perform?

It was in pretty decent shape to begin with so I really just dry sanded the surface rust starting with a 320 grit and moving up to a 4000grit. Then a quick polish with some jewelers cloth and some Mother's Mag & Aluminum polish to finish it up. Scales just needed some cleaning and a little tighten on the pins.

At that point in the restore the the pins weren't quite as tight as they should have been so I had the cap there just to be safe. After I took that picture I tightened up the pins so now it will stay open on it's own and not open by itself when you turn it upside down. As soon as I stop being lazy and buy a new camera I'll post a better picture. The scales are celluloid.

It shaves well. I'm not a pro honer as I've only been honing razors for a short time, but I was able to get it to what I consider shave ready with no issues.

    Great job, Tone2.
Breathing life back into old razors, is a beautiful thing.
    Thank you for sharing it.

Here is a little bit clearer picture. Also this pic is after I tightened the pins and honed it so this would be the completely finished product.

You are obviously proud of your first attempt and you can expect to be happier with any subsequent restorations. Keep it going.......
