Wade & Butcher 7/8 Full Wedge rescale
Got this blade off ebay a few weeks ago. Scales were shot so I've been playing around with different types of wood and found this reddish hardwood, and I can't remember what type of hardwood it is now...
I really need to figure out how you guys take such nice clean images of your razors...

Nice work Skookum. Great job on the scales. Did you also clean up the blade, and how does it shave?

I had to do a lot of hand sanding on this one, it wasn't too bad with that black stuff but there was quite a bit of active rust, stains etc. I honed it up when I first got it, duck taped the old scales together and shaved with it. There is quite a bit of uneven hone wear on it so it was really good honing practice, lots of heel angle and lots of swooshing at the end of the stroke. I guess its what they call rolling x.
It really is a nice shaver, but the full wedge is a really different feel than my hollow grinds. I like it a lot tho. Now I'm on the hunt for a Barbers Use W&B the big one with a 1 1/8 bladeI dream of a world where a chicken can cross a road without having it's motives questioned.

There are a lot of them out there, so be patient and pick a good one. You will probably see some sketchy ones and/or some overpriced ones before you see one that is in incredible shape, at an incredible bargain. Good luck, and yes, the W&B wedges do have a different feel and sound, or lack thereof.

Thanked: 993Looks good.
You can make a quick light box with a liquor box, and some white tissue paper and a piece of bristol board. Do a search for light boxes. I made a thread of my process about two years ago. It cost be about $20, and that included three lights from IKEA.

Hi Maxi, yes this was taken in my lightbox. I guess its just a matter of fiddling with angles and stuff. Maybe I need a bigger box.

Thanked: 993Not so much the size of the box, more the position of the light/s and the angle of the razor. Try a diagonal shot of the razor instead of a straight on shot. As well, don't be afraid to move your tripod around to capture the blade in a way that there is no line or light reflecting off of it. It takes a bit of fiddling, but then you'll be able to know exactly where you need to place your razor for a good quick pic. Then whammo, all done.

Thanked: 993I just came up from the shop. It seems your scales got caught in the spontaneous inferno of my blow torch.
