Thread: Joseph Rodgers Rescale

Hello All,

I wish I had "before" pics as the razor was a mess, but alas..

Here is a 6/8" Joseph Rodgers "Cutlers to their Majesties" that I picked up with broken/warped scales (black celluloid). I ordered some Olive Wood scales online, cleaned up the blade, and rescaled the razor. I then ran it over my Swaty hone and shaved with it last night, which went wonderfully!

This is what I ended up with. It's my second attempt at a rescale and I think I'm getting the hang of it!!

I found rescaling isn't so bad until you hit a razor where the pivot hole is rusted out real bad. I had to rescale my great great grandfather's wade and butcher 5/8 wedge and that got interesting. I ended up deliberately bending the pin to force it to be tight.

I'm on about my 20th rescale and everyone just gets better and better. Keep at it and in no time they'll be perfect!! Love the razor!!

No surprise the shave went 'wonderfully', that is how Joseph Rodgers & Sons razors shave. I love mine, they are the best shavers I have.

Thanks for the positive feedback! I am very new at this, but I really enjoy it. My goal is to be able to restore razors for people, free of charge (I could use the practice!); you just pay for materials.

I'm not there yet, but soon enough!!

Love the scales. I am such a fan of any type of razor that is sandwiched between wood scales! great job! I am going to pick up a few razors today from my local antique outlet and they will be getting some wood scales
