Thanked: 1Three just completed
Hello to All
Thought I would share these with you.
This is a Masame steel blade with Giraffe bone, I know the scales are tooooo thick at the pin side, I will be correcting that next weekend?
These two are Damasteel blades in African hard woods. The Bjorkmann twist damasteel pattern is scaled with Rhodesian Teak and a turquoise wedge with copper pins.
The other blade is Odins eye pattern with Panga-Panga scales and a wedge of black and gold web.
Thank you all for looking.
Best regards
Chris.

Made a little rough, but nevertheless interesting. Rivets should still be the same. IMHO
Can write, who forged? What brand of steel? what hardness? How does it feel when shaving?
Experiments I like ...If something is unclear in the text, please correct me ......

Thanked: 1Hello to All
Thank you for your comments and thoughts.
To answer some of the questions and doubts put forward re the scales and the shaving ability of the razors as well as the steel used and the treatment of that steel.
I have used two types of steel.
1. Masame steel which is the "Zebra" striped steel, this is a carbon steel. Heat treated to a 59RWC, twice tempered. Etched in very strong coffee.
2. The other steel is Damasteel Damascus as mentioned in the original post. The two patterns used are Bjorkmann twist and Odins eye. They are both heat treated to 61RWC and have both had deep cycling in liquid Nitrogen (cryogenic treatments) for 8 hours followed by a double tempering session. Etched in Sulphuric acid.
Shaving ability:
1. The masame steel blade is as yet not shave tested but it is hanging hair sharp.
2. The two Damasteel blades are both shave tested, personally I liked the shave from the Bjorkmann twist blade, it was smooth and didnt pull very much. The odins eye blade was an OK type of shave. Please note that all the blades have only been sharpened up to 3000 grit on stones and then stropped. I am certain that if they were sharpened by a pro they would produce much better results? Having said this also note my observation on the shave from the Bjorkmann twist blade, it was OK??
On the scale side of things, I like working outside the box as it were, I like to design my own shapes and not to conform to the accepted normal design. These are razors 3,4 & 5 that I have made so far, so I am VERY new at this game. The good thing is it will only get better as time goes on.
I would like to say that the Masame steel blade is quite the beautiful looking piece of kit when you have it in your hand. In my opinion it is best suited to a collector who wants a conversational piece in his collection rather than a dedicated straight razor shaving fanatic. This is not a statement I am happy making as I make my knives and blades to be used. I haven't had enough experience with the Masame steel to back it up fully as yet. I have only made up 3 knives with the Masame steel and all three have been put into collections and are not being used. This has left me with a bit of a dilemma??? HOW DOES THIS STEEL PERFORM???
I hope that I have answered you questions? Once again all your comments are appreciated.
All the best
Chris.

Thanked: 4249Your artistic juice is definately flowing, the blade shape and scales design are unusual and attractive, but that said in the end if they dont shave none of this matters, and being a custom razor they must shave extremely well!
