Thanked: 375straight razor Display rack
Made this yesterday, from old Redwood fencing. I just have it soaked in Teak oil, probably will either leave it this way or put a sealant on it. I lightly sanded it, and beat it with a wrench (rusticated), the holes are 1 3/8" that I cut out with a forstner bit to house larger blades, and the brush spot is 7/8" (13 razors seemed unlucky and I'm not fond of odd numbers, just doesn't seem right)
I'm not sure how I feel about this rack yet it's about 28" long. I think a couple of smaller racks that house maybe 6 each would appeal to me more, otherwise I'm happy with how it turned out, just not sure it'll work for meCHRIS

Thanked: 247When I see stuff like this, I'm always bummed out cause it can't be mounted in the bathroom. It just seems like the perfect place for something like this. Right over the sink. Too bad it can never be. I like it. I think you did good. Congrats on a job well done.

Thanked: 375Well that's not entirely true! I have a half bath that the SWMBO said I could set up for myself. Now seeing how a shower and bath are absent, I think it's prime Razor display territory. The only downfall I see, is quest, a sign would be in order, like "Please do not touch! extremely sharp (do you like your appendages?)! And how big did you say your bank account is/was? "
Thanks, I'm still undecided if it's to big. When I view something I like to see the whole thing at once, I don't want to have and pan it to take it all in. Plus I'm not sure about spacing, it looks a little spread out for my taste. I'm my worse critic......
If I can figure out how to make diagonal slots with the tools I have, I think the spacing can be remedied.CHRIS

Thanked: 170I think you are on the right track with your design. You could try making a slanted hole by drilling 2 small holes, a bit apart, and connecting them with a coping saw.
Suggestion - bathrooms are usually more humid than other rooms in the house, any therefore may not be the best place to store/display straight razors, unless they are made of stainless steel. I have a similar rack in my bathroom, which is wall mounted, for brushes and double edges, but humidity is not an issue for them. In your case, with a 1/2 bath and no shower, my comment probably doesn't apply.Last edited by skipnord; 03-16-2013 at 09:33 PM.

I've looked through the gallery at a few home built storage solutions like this one, and I was wondering (regardless of the size of the unit), if it isn't better to not keep one's razor collection in the bathroom where corrosion is more likely?
Its a great piece whether you keep it or not, keep tweaking!
