Trust your instincts and go with a less wedgie wedge. When you mock up the razor start with the wedge end. If the space between the pivot ends is too great start over with a new wedge.

Bone saws very nicely, use a coping saw for the profile and a fine toothed hack saw to trim for thickness and to start the wedge. Once the bone for the wedge is attached to scrap wood clamp the wood in a vice and saw off most of the waste bone.

Looks great! That stuff does not want to bend, IIRC. Nice job!

Some materials will flex more easily - horn for example but I've used wedges with dense woods (Rosewood, Ebony) and man-made materials such as micarta and not had any problems so far. You obviously want to ensure that when peened, the toe of the scales does not show a gap between scale and wedge. As Datsots mentioned, mock up the toe end first with a screw and nut and then do the same at the pivot - this will indicate whether you are likely to have problems when you come to peen the wedge.

Nice!! The etching on the scales is a great idea. All kinds of possibilities.

Those scales look very nice. I got a set of acrylic scales with the Boker tree etched in them online, but never got around to using them yet. Those make me want to get a laser etching machine or maybe just see if I can find someone local that will do the work. Didn't think wood would turn out. Figured it would burn. Glad to be proven otherwise. Wonder what other materials could be etched like that. The gold leaf works really well with the wood and the hardware. Once again very nice.
