I used a set square and a straight edge, cut with a new Stanley blade. It is pretty good if I do say so myself.

I've made a strop, a couple of guitar straps and a waist belt out of a horse hide from Keith De Grau (HandAmerican). He seems to be gone for the past few years but used to make great strops. I used a carpet layers straight edge and carpet knife with a double edge slotted blade. Wicked sharp. I used to work at that trade and still have my tools.

If I was going to buy a Roo strop and lived in Oz I might inquire of Neil Miller in the UK. He makes strops second to none out of many different hides and I'm thinking roo is one of them.

He does have roo sometimes but he seems to be very busy and always has a message on his site about not taking custom orders for ages do to workload.

Well I land in Sydney for 5 weeks from 30th October, heading from Sydney up to Cairns and back down, and would be keen to get a roo strop myself. See a few people making then and able to roll them up into a tin of some sort for travelling. I got a 2" leather (can't remember type) made that can be rolled around the handle but would really like a roo strop.

I'm going to Brisbane and then to Cairns in November would love to be able to pick up a 3" roo strap if anyone knows where I can get one. But i'm not sure if I could run into customs problems bringing it back to NZ?

Frank, you'd be alright if it was in your checked luggage with you cut-throat razor mate. After all, you've had the strop for ages haven't you mate?!

no worse than the Croc skin boots, the Emu belt & the brides snake skin purse in the checked luggage either, just no wood ( bark especially ) products are recommended coming in as we have 1 of the strictest quarantine requirements in the world nearly, but going back probably won’t even blink an eyelid at it.

GST, wood items, quarantine fees & any other taxes Ali Baba & the 40 customs agents can think of = $300 extra to your cost.
