Thanked: 983Jimmy Rod's
I'm off to Jimmy Rod's for a first experience at a proper Barber shave tomorrow. It had better be worth it! I have had to make the barbers job easy by not shaving for the last five days, just to keep my girls happy (they're the ones who have paid for it). Personally I would like to see what sort of result they achieve on a regular shave cycle, but they get to shave longer growth, and right now I don't care if they do a terrible job of it, and leave lots of stubble, because I miss using my razors!

Let us know how you go, is it a belated fathers day gift or something? You'd best take some shaving gear with you incase they do do a terrible job, or the girls will be disapointed that they got you a bad gift (you will obobviously have to pretend that the barber did it) but I hope its not like that.

Thanked: 983Yes Ed, Jimmy Rod's is fashioned on Traditional Barbers and traditional Barbers products. My girls bought me a voucher for a Shave and a Haircut for fathers day, and so far I've only collected the Haircut. They have some pretty girls working there which I assume is to get the men in the door, because I sure as sh!t wasn't happy with the haircut...Or the conversation. She wasn't an promising intellect to converse with, and if she would have just stayed quiet, I could have enjoyed the view and wouldn't have cared so much about the haircut .
But all that is not fair on Jimmy Rod's Shops, as that was a first time experience, and I did tell the girl to do what she could with my short hair. I've been cutting my own for years and am kind of set in my ways, so two weeks later I cut it myself, my way. They even give you a free beer after 2PM, but I'm heading down there in a few hours, so no beer for me.

Thanked: 983Home again now, and I have to say...It was interesting. I've also reaffirmed my dislike of Derby razor blades. Boy those things are harsh! Yes the girls (all two of them) were pretty, but the lass that was shaving me was much more my kind of person, quieter, and when she did converse, much more intelligent. She had a nice light touch d the shave went nicely, though I would recommend a change of blades to something a bit better than Derby. I have a bit of a shave rash on the sides of my neck, which is the only let down of the experience. The hot, lemongrass scented towels on the face were nice. The bayrum aftershave was nice...And the girl even had nice armpits . The chair being jacked up and laid back was the most nerve wracking part of the deal. I just don't trust things to hold me up! I know I'm not the smallest bloke around.
Would I recommend it?! Yes I would. Would I go back again?! No. Once is enough to know I can do an equally good job of it, in the comfort of my own home. Would I do it again if it was at a different Barber shop?! Yes. Just to get a comparison.

Glad it was ok, you don't need to fib to the girls now . I am guessing they used a shavette?

Thanked: 983Quite correct Ed.
Eddy, there is no way I would entrust the use of one of my razors to a complete stranger. "Hi there sweetheart, how's about you swing this 8/8 around my facial features for me...Yeah I know it's not the same as a Shavette, but you'll be right luv..." Nah, I don't think so...

Thanked: 580I have been thinking of trying something like that myself just to compare. Maybe you should have taken one of your razors, just not an 8/8. The Derby blades are rubbish for sure and near put me off when i first started. What is the deal these days? Are the ladies trained in the fine art of shaving or can anybloody wield a shavette on the old mug?
