Dr. Harris Shaving Soaps and bowls
Just tried out my first Dr.Harris Shave soap. Ordering from The Shave Shed is a 7 day deal, eg. order on a Wednesday
( I always do) and it'll be at the nearest post office next Wednesday.
I've ordered from them about half a dozen times before and never any variation, always reliable.
I opted for the "Mahogany Style" bowls as the "Beechwood" bowls remind me of Ikea merchandise. What can I say, I'm a snob !!
The pucks are 20gms heavier / larger than the Trumpers, the bowls are narrower in circumference but deeper:
As mentioned, the pucks are deeper and so are the bowls:
The "Arlington" won the toss, and my impressions are only 60 mins old but, there was nothing that really stood out fragrance-wise.
It was enjoyable sure, and still not having put any aftershave or moisturiser on, my face feels very good. Soft, supple and
most importantly, no razor rash, which I'm prone to.
The closest comparison I can make is that it's a much milder version of Mitchell's Wool Fat. And that's a poor comparison indeed !!
I used my Omega "Bambino" Boar Bristle brush and the lathering characteristics were impressive:
At the moment that's all I can say, I'm distracted by the bogans driving by, doing donuts and yelling about how the Dockers lost to Hawthorn
by 15 points, (and I have to go across the road for some shopping). AHH, the sound of fisticuffs, what a delightful neighbourhood !!

Thanked: 3225I cheaped out and just bought a refill puck of Arlington and have to agree with your initial impressions. I actually think I prefer Arlington to MWF as it seems less finicky to get a good lather out of. The scent is very subtle indeed, much like the L'Occitane puck I just tried. As much as I like Arlington, for a strong scent and great lather I would go with Tabac.

Thanked: 983I might have to try that I think...The Arlington, not the fisticuffs. I'm getting too old for that sort of cr@p.

Just tried the Marlborough, this time with my Omega Mighty Midget (mixed badger/boar bristle) brush.
This one definitely reminds me of MWF, just a bit more subtle. Lathering was easy and long lasting,
although the softer brush made me work a tad harder. Nice moisturising qualities as with the Arlington.
The after-scent is lasting nicely too.

So far, from DRH, I only went through a puck of Lavender. I didn't like the scent, but the soap itself was great and lasted long (about 2-3 months IIRC).
I've had the DRH Naturals sitting in my drawer (and giving it a great smell) for about 6 months now (so many soap to try... but it's the next one!) and it smells amazing (really fresh coconut scent).
The only problem I had was the mahogany wood bowl. After the Lavender puck, I used it with Cella without problem for a month. Then I used it with a puck of Col. Conk and after 2 weeks the soap was turning brown; I threw it out and put Cella in the bowl again, and surely it turned brown after a week. The bowl itself was turning black due to moisture so I threw it out.
In conclusion, no more wood bowl for me, but DRH will definitely stay in my long term rotation.

Pretty nice lather once you get the hang of it. I've only used the marlborough soap (used lavender cream though) and I don't care for it's scent...kinda too bland for me. I'll prob wait till it's empty to try the arlington and windsor.
I just grated half my puck up and put it in a little glass container...I'll get the wooden bowl for the lavender when I eventually pick it up.
