Honing/sharpening Brisbane
Hi all,
I'm interested in learning how to correctly home/sharpen straight razors before spending money to buy things which I may or may not necessarily need.
Is anyone in the Brisbane/Gold Coast area that would be keen to show or help teach/mentor someone in honing so I know that I'm actually doing it right and not causing more damage than not.
Thanks in advance
Adam

Thanked: 2591Contact Onimaru55, he lives in Oz, he might be able to direct you better to the local members that can help you. He may even be close enough to you to help.

Oz is in Sydney. Just did a search. Try MickR or AndrewJM used to organize meets so would know who's about.

Yeah too many klm's between me & Brissy.
I'm sure some of the locals will chime in but unless you have your stropping & shaving near mastered you could leave the honing for a later date. The white gleam of swords, not the black ink of books, clears doubts and uncertainties and bleak outlooks.

Hey. I was just wondering if there is a list available of the people that hone? That advanced search is not very straightforward

If in Aus where are you. Onimaru (above) is in Sydney but there are others around that could also help locally depending on where you are.

Adam and I have exchanged PMs with the aim of meeting up but distance (200 km +) and availability have made it difficult. A Brisbane meet-up would probably be the best bet all round. We haven't had one for a couple of years now and it could be great to see what we've all been up to. I know Stu has started a nice little sideline in custom razors and Rick and myself have both lifted our honing skills to higher levels than where we were in 2014. I've also done a bit of honing, scale making and razor comparison over the last year with johnmrson - who now lives near my neck of the woods.
Has anyone got any suggestions as to what would be a good venue?
