I finished honing the razor last night and she took a very nice edge and shaved well, for how long is anyone's guess. After some creative taping I was able to get to the edge without any issues but that tip has an incredible amount of flex in it making getting to the toe very difficult even with the lightest amount of pressure. Despite the crazy curves in the tang it is comfortable to hold, for me anyway. The spread pin thing is an interesting approach and easy to tighten. That said, as far as the steel, this is a typical GD.

Thanked: 1936I think the first thing someone should do with one is correct the geometry as Ron talked about and make the edge be parallel with the grind along the spine. After removing all that belly, then you might have a chance of honing it properly. I can see a LOT of work with one of those...which takes know-how. Have fun iwth it!

I have ordered one of the GD W-59 razors. I watched a few YouTube videos on how it hones and shaves and the reviews were generally positive. One of the videos suggested several layers of tape on the spine. Its worth a shot. I will keep you updated on this adventure. I look forward to hearing from others.

I had ordered one and this one looks fine, it comes shave ready, the geometry is correct with few bad aesthetics issues. shaves very well and feels fine in the hand. I got luck.

I have just received one, I won it on ebay for £15 not a big deal, I just wanted to see one really, and at that price im ok with
First impression it looks a bit rough I would need to take it to the buffing wheels after I see how the geometry is (looking at it, I think it needs work)
I have never honed a GD before (may never want to after this one) but hey I have 2 weeks off work no kids and a very small family so I have time, and I will have to change the scales as they are not so nice imho.
Mine was sold as shave ready but with it needing the work mentioned already I wont be trying in until I have fixed everything, If I remember I will take pics as I go along.
