Yeah, a fair bit. That is probably the main thing I am trying to learn at the moment, how long to spend on a hone until I move onto the next one. I bought a cheap 60x jewellers loupe and I find that's handy.

I just shaved with a razor that has gone to CrO. Probably my smoothest shave to date. Still, hard to say if it was the CrO, my beard, the sun and the stars being in the right alignment, etc, etc.

I bought a 1k/6k and a 3k/8k combo off Everten and a 12k from Classicshaving that I have since been told would have been cheaper had I known of CARBA-TEC...Live and learn though.

I figured you might. 6k is going to have to work hard after 1k & you will dish the stone sooner than if you had a 2k &/or 4k in between.

    Gents.
just a couple of days ago I got onto the carbotec website, and they are here in Perth, have been cogitating over whether I may purchase some of their waterstones, they seem pretty cheap, I gather a lot of you blokes are onto them as well. I am currently using an Arkansas stone for the initial grind, with kero, then go to a very fine stone the old man used to sharpen his muelsing and tailing gear with. I also use a barbers hone and a couple of other fine white natural stone picked up from and antque stores. The last two are very like what an old time barber in West Perth uses on his straights. I find a mix of light gun oil and kero is a good thing.

    Cheers:

And don't forget to check overseas websites.

As nice as it is to go local - sometimes it works our cheaper (even after postage and currency conversion) to go overseas.

Depends on what you're after of course.

    All the best,
    Michael

I may be stating the obvious but keep oil & kero away from waterstones if you buy some

Have a look at the end of the box for a sticker & tell me what it says. My one read opposite to what was stamped on the stone. I think the white is 3k same as a Norton combo. The white is a much faster cutter than the yellow side & leaves deeper scratches the way i see it.

Well, bugger me! That explains why my touch ups have been a tad off. The sticker don't actually say anything...I asked it to say something. But it does read amd how it reads is White Fine Grit #3000. Yellow Super Fine Grit #8000. The rock itself reads the opposite. If you know for sure which is which, tell me. I've got to lap the yellow side some more before I do another touch up. I discovered a small ridge while touch testing it just now.
