Thread: finally done.....

Okay guys,
despite all the set backs with life stuff, i finally finished these two knives. What's so important? They mark the end of my current knife orders. yay for now. This means i can now dismantle my grinder set up, put together my new one, and then concentrate on razors again for a while. Yeah - it'll be May before i have the new grinder up and running, but i already have the plans and raw materials for my next four razors so hopefully i get them done this year.
Anyway - just in case anyone is interested to know, these two kitchen utility knives were made to order for two sisters. They were to be the same except for differing Dymondwoods on the hilts {one is Winewood and the Other Black Winewood}. i took the blades to the owner when profiling to customise the grip size. Bolsters are nickel silver pinned and silver soldered {i tinned them, prepped the tang, pinned, them heated to melt the solder}, three corby bolts and JB Weld hold the Dymondwood grips in place. Overall length 300mm - Blades 180mm. Design points = RWL34 heat treated to 59C Rockwell, no sharp lines; all flows to maximise strength and smooth cutting. Mirror polish for easy cleaning. Grips designed for comfortable, secure hold edge down and edge up. Just in front of the bolster for 25mm is a hollow grind to give maximum control peeling and paring. Then flows to a convex edge grind. From the shoulder to the spine is a slight hollow grind - this is my answer to the Granton edge, rough Japanese blade surfaces, etc. to prevent capiliiary action of moist foods clinging to blade. Made bench top cradles of varnished pine to keep them safe and handy and not get blunt banging about in drawers.

Fine looking knives!!

Back when I was building knives, "flat" grinding whipped my ass on every one I tried. I could hollow grind with no issues, but just couldn't get it do right on the flat stuff.

You'd think it would be the other way around but it wasn't for me anyway.

Beautiful work Adam. Those grips look a little Grohmann-ish in style, supposedly the most comfortable grip style on a user point of view anyway. Well done mate.
