Because you guys make me feel like it's ok to spend hundreds, probably thousands now on shaving and restoration tools.

SWMBO always seems to want frivolous things like food and gas...

Strangely for one who does not count himself among the mortal mass, i guess it is that human imperative to be part of a community. No one else i know shares a passion for edged things. People i know just do not get it. I intend to pursue a full time career as a bladesmith and you guys all give me inspiration and hope.
Damn!!! Now i need to go do something manly. Huntin' or cage fightin' !!

I only came across your thread today Mick, and I haven't read the other replies. A warning, though, I'm probably going to get a little sooky...

I was thinking about this the other day after I came 'back' after a few days camping. I thought 'why do I bother taking photos of my shave gear day after day and posting on the SOTD thread; it's the same 6 razors over and over' and, as you say, I know what I'm doing now. I also had a small change in lifestyle, with my brother moving in with my family (long story) which is why I haven't posted a SOTD post for a few days...

Anyway, I like this place. I have way more friends here (as in actual friends and 'designated' friends') than on facebook. I enjoy all the banter and conversation here (much more entertaining than facebook) and I like the broad topics (we know we stray from just shaving topics). I know recently 'non-shaving' topics are a bit in the spotlight following some iffy comments in some threads, but the broadness of 'matey' type topics is appealing above and beyond the shaving topics. The Conversation area, the Tea area, the Finer Things in Life area for instance are all important parts of the overall feel. I like the 'mens' group' mentality; I've always felt this ios more than a shaving forum, regardless if some may feel it should only be about shaving.

I like how people appear to like my posts and comments (mad as they are (the comments, not the people)) and how I feel I have genuine mates I've never met.

I like how I can be helpful, not only in offering thoughts about my shaving experience, but also, at times, in regard to 'deeper' topics.

I like how many here have helped me through not only the tough times of learning to shave with a cut throat, but also through tough times in my life.

In short (I NEVER actually say anything 'in short') I LIKE this place.
Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

I think we think on a similar level Carl. Your reasons sound very much how I feel too.

I come here to hear from real men, not the sooks and whiners of the world. I also learn something with most visits whether it be an insight into my hobby. And sometimes I marvel at just how many true nutters we have here. I should know i'm one of them. Just ask SWMBO. She still thinks I have totally lost the plot wanting to shave with something so sharp and dangerous. And she waves kitchen knives around with such gusto when describing things or telling a story I duck for cover in fear.
Damn there I go again, off topic in my own space bubble. I think I have been reading too many of Carls posts (joking Carl)
    Thats my story ayways
