Ok so fitted, single breasted, 1960's European (the stylish European, not the hideous woolly jumper and tracksuit bottoms European. Straight cut pleatless trousers and a single breasted jacket with narrowish lapels.
I read today that your lapel, collar and tie width should all be the same.
Bespoke suits can be had for around $1000 in Adelaide.
Or were you thinking more "boaty" though I am not sure the boots would go.
Have you thought about a really nice suit, and maybe an extra pair of trousers in a complimentary colour, it would allow you to make it smart smart, or smart casual,Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Thanked: 485No, see the SECOND para was, um like poetic, lyrical, ummm, fantasy. A grand for a jacket is NOT allowed (by Cindy). I have indeed considered a suit; but I'd buy a suit with two pairs of trs, as they always wear before the jacket. Oh the dilemma! Like the narrow lapels idea.

Ok firstly no inanimate object can be stupid, you need sentience for that.
Secondly I only me ruined the tie because it was in the article I read, I already know you have an irrational tie issue.
And yes the suit is expensive, but it is tailored, and should last you a long time, if it was a three piece, you would have the trousers and waistcoat only option.
I have been thinking of saving $20 every week then in a year I will have $1000 to buy what I want guilt free. I think that $20 should be painless.
While it is fantasy, it is also romanticised vision of the image that you are trying to portray therefore we can use it. You don't give us much concrete opinion to work with Carl.Last edited by edhewitt; 07-24-2013 at 12:12 PM.

Thanked: 485Fair 'nuff. PEOPLE who WEAR ties are stupid. I am not a concrete person, I guess. I do like the imagery of that thing I wrote, it does encapsulate the feel, I think...There are some nice sentences in there...
"...I have a villa somewhere. It is white and by the coast..."
"...It is always summer; warm, but not oppressively so; the fine lace white curtains move in the breeze and the jasmine is always flowering and pungent..."
I'm feeling rather lyrical; I feel a poem building in my soul, but it is time for my bed and I'll simply lie in bed with lines and verses and whole complete ideas and feelings writhing and turning and coming to the fore, only to be turned over and over and written on my brain like pencil on slate washed by the innocent morning rain and so forgotten with only a faint, slight scent remaining; like the scent of sage in the garden when you get up and go out to see what the day is like, and smile at the sun. And stretch.Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Thanked: 734I have to say that I find these new skinny fit cuts to look ridiculous. I'm sorry if that offends anyone's taste. It removes all of the masculine elegance of a suit/jacket and leaves the wearer looking ill-fitted and as awkward as a teenager. On the other hand, if you have a good tailor that does custom suits, I highly recommend it. Every suit or jacket I've ever bought prior never quite fit very well. The worst fitting were the shirts. By the time the shoulder and neck were properly fitted, the sleeves were a foot too long or the body was as loose as a trash bag. If you have the option, go custom. You can pick the cut (skinny fit too if you like), the material, stitching, buttons, liner...you name it.

Carl ahoy! Ground control calling.
Something like this perhaps? I bet the dude got lucky because his trousers and umbrella match so lovely together. Also notice the boots!
But seriously speaking, it's was a beautiful visualization you were painting there. Almost got me wish to visit in Crete and Spain again.
But now as i have no funds nor time i have to sit down, take the cold beer and read a chapter of two from Jeeves to get back in line.'That is what i do. I drink and i know things'
