Stranger, if you passing meet me and desire to speak to me, why should you not speak to me? And why should I not speak to you?

Carl, you may also consider a classic, two button, navy blue, blazer. Can be a perfect match to a jean, grey trousers for a more formal outlook, or khakis during the summer.

Carrying on from Sailor's excellent suggestion, I think it's worth noting that the annals of European musical history presents a particularly rich vein to mine for fashionable inspiration, outwith as well as within the bounds of the Scandinavian peninsula.
Take this, for example. In addition to simply being what may be the finest 2:33 on YouTube, it also presents several options that I think would be perfect for the dapper Australian Gentleman. In particular, may I suggest the outfit worn by the mustachioed fellow who walks on at around the 2:00 mark.
Failing that, get a Burton Suit. If it's good enough to be mentioned in "White Man in the Hammersmith Palais", it's good enough for me.
It was in original condition, faded red, well-worn, but nice.
This was and still is my favorite combination; beautiful, original, and worn.
