I just decided a picture is worth a thousand words. I think you might have stuffed up at step 2. Anyway I just ripped off a couple of diagrams from the 'net for ease of explanation.

Yeah, think I had some real knot confusion, the half windsor is pretty much what I thought, step 2 was definately wrong.
I think my base knot was a shell knot, or a variation thereof.

Four in hand was the knot I used in school, but I used half and full Windsor outside of school. I've also heard that the four in hand was considered a school girl's way of tying. Dunno that too many people would have had the balls to call me a girl at school. Guess that's why I never found out until years later.

Screw em anyway. Don't think a girl's tie did you any harm.

Some years ago, while working as an Loss Prevention Officer/Store Detective/Security Guard or what ever you want to call those people that do that sort of thing, the people working in the Men's Fashion area couldn't even tie a Full Windsor Knot, let alone a Bow Tie. Anytime it was required to "Demonstrate to Sir", they would call Security for me to do it for them. I offered to teach them but it was always "not just now" etc...Now I haven't had to tie a tie of any kind for a long time, and I think I might need to give myself a refresher course as well. I have a book on such things, to learn from.

It's not a goblet. How is it a goblet? It's a crystal wine glass! The staff at the shop you mention sound like those working at a particular shop in Aust that's ells shaving equipment (as well as hairdryers, mirrors, electric clippers, etc etc). Whist they DO stock 1/2 a dozen soaps, some Dovo straights and some DEs, plus blades, and a strop or three; they have no idea how to use a strop; they told me 'strop on the leather side and then the canvas'! I was mortified! Mortified I tell you!!

Now I can see the bowtie, You are correct in saying that you could wear it, you could also not wear it :-)
Was going to ask about the fit of the shirt, provided you are svelt a slim fit looks good, I would look like an exploding soft toy if I wore one.
Right so are you now fully outfitted, or do we still have a way to go.
Well, in regards to the shirt, I think it looks fine. It does accentuate the line of my pecs a little, but since I've lost some fat that's not a bad thing. Bouldering (and daily weight measuring and determination) has really played dividends. I've lost about 8 kilos over the last year or so and maintained muscle. That's the problem with the jacket and shirt, actually. I'm now quite broad across the back; and my lats are sort of growing downwards as well as outwards (i.e. towards my waist). My biceps have grown a little and so have my shoulders. As we have previously ascertained, I'm not a BIG guy, so buying a bigger jacket would look silly. The 38R jacket and 40 shirt are OK to me, as long as I don't hug myself too much, and given that I have incredible lats and biceps, it may be hard to refrain from hugging myself, but I'll try...

Sorry to go in to all that detail, but one's shape does I think play a BIG part in what one wears and how comfortable one feels wearing it. It's summer here soon, and I want to be able to wear just board shorts and not feel the least bit 'embarrassed' about my body; you see TOO many 40+ guys at the swimming pool these days wearing T shirts. They SAY it's so they don't get burnt, but, really, it's due to man boob syndrome...

Yep! That's me, but I don't even bother with using the swimming pool (maybe I should for laps)...But I'm working on it. Time is the killer.

I don't wear a t shirt to the pool, but do fall slightly into the man boob category, it at least they are still perky, but I do want to lose them before they start sagging like saddle bags. And yes body shape really determines what you should wear, fat hipsters in "this is what my stuff looks like" Jeans is just wrong.

And a nice bow tie too...

Gagliardi Red Floral Geometric Ready Tied Bow Tie | Gagliardi

Jacket looks a little English college lad, the shoes are nice but oh so sad (so blue and down), and as for the tie, is it a clip on? The colour would suit a clown, and I would much prefer one that was hand tied before I would put my money down.
