Well, as an update I tried the jacket known as 'A' and it was very nice, but a bit boring.

It had black velvet patches on the elbows, which were nice, but I'm sure I'd be teased. It also had very nice pockets.

I tried on a few then saw a nice grey jacket with subtle checks; I'm unsure of what the pattern is termed. Anyway, I found it was actually a suit, for 400, and the other jacket was about 360, so I tried it on and really liked it...

I'll generally not wear it as a suit, but it's quite nice. The trousers are a LITTLE tight, but at the moment I'm 71.0 - 73 so it I lose 1 - 3 kilos of fat I'll be fine. Summer will soon be here and I lose weight in summer so it'll be fine...

Talking of summer, the jacket's fabric is quite light, I could certainly wear it on a late spring or early summer evening. The lapels are thin and nicely stitched. I need to cut or burn off some loose threads, but the detail is very nice.

I especially like the subtle orange stripe through the fabric and the way this is picked up in the lining and detail. Some of the contrasting detail on the inside of the jacket is especially nice, with little elements like the orange thread used on a pocket button...

There are four inside pockets of differing sizes, and some interesting detail on them. I abhor things in my pockets in general, so I doubt I'll use them for more than a credit card and a bus ticket but they are nice...

I got myself a white cotton French cuff shirt for 90 bucks and also a bow tie. The bow tie is for my son's wedding, but I quite like it, even if I do look like Professor Schneider in it and my younger son says he'll punch me if I wear it. I think I could wear it though, I have a university prep course graduation coming up, a bow tie sounds like just the thing...

I'll think I'll get another of the shirts, even though Cindy says it's too tight. It's a 'slim fit' and I'm not yet slim, only slimming, but I consider the shirt encouragement, lest I relinquish to 'soft middle age' as Pink Floyd put it.

The shirt is 'double folded cotton' apparently, which sounds nice, as they've done it twice. It's always important to do things twice. You may remember the first time you did a certain thing twice, and felt like the lion in charge of the pride. You know the thing I'm talking about. Doing things twice is a good thing, even if it is just 'folding cotton'...

It seems (if I'm correct) that sports jackets have pockets that 'work' but suits don't, and of course suit jackets are better fitting.

A boring? Isn't it the Shiney check number? I definately think you would be teased. You would also run the risk of looking like a hipster trying to look like a 1950's college professor, particularly with the bow tie. Do not wear the bow tie with jeans.
I think that sometimes jacket pockets are sewn shut in the shops, unsure why, seem to remember a friend telling me that, he worked at a formal wear shop so he was probably right.
I can't make the attachments open, so can't tell what they are.
Please tell me it isn't item A that you are investing $360 in.

Hope you enjoyed the chardonay and stuff, I am sure kissing the sky is a euphamism for something, but I don't know what.
Anyway meant to say good job on choosing a shirt.
    You off bouldering tomorrow?

Well, you know, I'm quoting a Jimmy H song.....

Yes, the shirt is quite nice, I may get another...

No! Not bouldering! The place I go to is replacing the mats, so I'm off to Vertical reality to do some climbing with ropes. Sports Climbing I think it's called. Anyway, you know, the harness and stuff. You can rest, whereas in bouldering you can't really. I think I'll be much better at it than when we started with a single 'father and son outing' with this same session in Dec last year. Since then it's been almost all indoor bouldering; with maybe five sessions outside...

dont have any Hendrix, never really got into it, but I do like Neil diamond, he is a male solo artist too :-). l would get another if you like it, i have often found stuff I like, then when it wears out I go to get another and it has been discontinued, will you get a different colour?
Sounds like the sports climbing will be fun, if you get bored, you can just swing around.

Oh, you taught me something tonight, I always thought the line was "excuse me while I kiss this guy".
Sorry it just dawned on me the song you meant, not that its a lot of help as I evidently don't know the words.

And I was gonna take the p!ss about the great goblet of wine in the background too, but you already admitted to it, so the joy of a bit of slagging is gone. The jacket looks nice mate, but I would have bought a real bow-tie and not just a clip on/around.

Ok right now I can see the pictures, good work on not buying either of the other jackets you proposed, the one you got is good.
Now I can see the bowtie, You are correct in saying that you could wear it, you could also not wear it :-)
Was going to ask about the fit of the shirt, provided you are svelt a slim fit looks good, I would look like an exploding soft toy if I wore one.
Right so are you now fully outfitted, or do we still have a way to go.

Hat's Ed! We still haven't got him a Hat! What about underwear?! There are so many choices out there, how will Carl cope without our expert advice?! Or of course he could just go commando...Or opt for a Kilt. And if he opts for a kilt will he want something more in line with the blue jeans and go with a Utilikilt, or will he want a semi casual five yard kilt or something a bit more formal along the lines of a full 8 yard kilt?! Then what about the footy...Generally you want something that you won't mind being a little on the tattered side by the end of the match, and I only know of one like that, so I hope he supports Wales, because it's in the form of the Ddraig Coch...So many decisions still to make....
