    Default Cool Old Rides

Here's a couple of pics of my classics. The red one is a restored 1965 Pontiac GTO with the 335 horse Ram Air 389 and a Carter AFB 4 barrel carb. She has a manual 4 speed M22 "Rockcrusher" transmission. So called cause the ratio was so close when the gearbox wound up it would "sing" to you by whining. It was also such a close ratio that a master shifter could wring the maximum potential from the drivetrain, but an inexperienced driver could easily shift from 3rd to 2nd instead of 4th if you weren't careful. The results of that could be unpleasant. I had a friend do it once in a 67' Chevelle and it slung every belt on the engine off when he put it into 2nd at about 5500 RPM. Jill (named after Jill St. John, a hot redhead from the 60's and a Bond Girl) has the Torque Thrust wheels on her, but I think I'll switch them out for a set of Hurst's eventually. She's with the parents in Arkansas.

The second car is my 1966 Pontiac 2+2. There is an incredible and really funny story about finding this car with daddy when I was 16 but I don't have the time to put it down now. Suffice to say, these were taken before I did the restoration and the car looks MUCH better now, but these give the general idea. It has the factory 4 speed M21 with Hurst shifter, tri power carburetion, and the the 420 horse Super Duty 421. Old Yellow Car (part of the story) is currently in storage in Texas at my home station.

The third car is my 1969 Yenko Super Camaro clone. She has a Tremec 6 speed and a 550 horse 502 crate motor. She gets a lot of attention. The reason that pic looks so good is the Goat was taken with a cellphone, as was the 2+2. The Camaro, or Heather (named after my favorite orange headed Playboy model) was taken by a professional photographer as part of a calendar shoot for a local bank a few years back. Heather is in storage in Texas while I'm in D.C.

My next project is my Paw Jacks old 1965 F100 Ford custom cab pickup. Be awhile for that one, at least until I leave D.C.

Beautiful cars, gents! I'll have to post a pic of mine as soon as we get enough break in the rain to get it out of the garage and wash it up.

Fastlane Classic Cars in St. Louis has a couple of 67's in good shape. You will pay for them though. You see their commercials during all of the Mecum Auto Auctions.

The 67 is a great looking car. I had one in high school til I got t-boned by a lumber truck running a stop sign. Sad that Pontiac was forced to give up the tri-power thanks to corporate politics and government meddling, but they fixed it with the Quadrajet and a bump from 389 to 400 ci. Also saw the debut of the amazing Hurst His and Hers, or Dual Gate Shifter. When mated with the new Turbo Hydramatic 400 tranny (that replaced the awful 2 speed power glide transmission) an automatic became a viable performance option, especially for drag racers. I still prefer a four speed though.

And don't worry about air. You can always add Vintage Air to any ride for around $2000.

That's hot Shayne. What sort of MPG do you get out of that beast? And where can I get one for myself?!
