Thanked: 2591Got the Sunwayman D40A today, I am very impressed with it.
I put 4 AA batteries in it and tested it. It has a bunch of modes that can be pretty useful under the right circumstances- 4 regular output modes +moonlight mode
Strobe, as well as police like strobe sequence. It has SOS strobe, and a beacon mode. This one will be real fun to go out at night with the kids and throw in the neighborhood.
Got a Sunwayman V11R on the way as well, that will be an EDC flashlight.Stefan

Thanked: 68The modern carbide lights put out a different kind of light to the old ones.
Sadly mostly overtaken by LEDs for caving. Light lasts longer, doesn't go out in the wet and easier to carry replacement set of batteries rather than more carbide...
But carbide is fun on occasion and and you can't beat it for light + heating! (or even cooking if you're desperate )
These things are great for general light round camp or at home when the power goes out.
Glow-in-the-dark cap means you can always find it in the room or tent.
Battery life is amazing, very lightweight and simple design - all you need is a 9V battery.
One for work, by the bed, in my "go-bag", the wife and the kids all have them too.
Pak-Lite in many different configurations.Last edited by nzFuzzy; 08-06-2013 at 11:41 PM.
Don't do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the paramedics!

Than there was the day we took out the entire chem lab with a 1 lb chunk of pure sodium nasty stuff that

Thanked: 68Plastic soft drink bottle, couple inches water, fold in half, add small pieces of carbide, firmly screw lid on. Throw and wait.
Carbide and water mix = acetylene. Increased pressure + heat in bottle will reach critical and explode.
Generally frowned on by law enforcement (and the neighbours) depending on where you are doing such activities.Don't do anything you wouldn't want to explain to the paramedics!
