'82 -'02 ETC(SW) US Navy Ret. Worked mostly on UHF satellite radios, but got my fingers in all kinds of comm, radar, and crypto gear. Spent all but my last 3 years overseas. Diego Garcia, Japan, Philippines, Singapore, Mediterranean, England then home to Maine @ Brunswick Naval Air Station.

I was on the last ship out of Subic Bay when we closed the base. A ship left with the last of the Marines and the Flag, and the next day we left towing the last fuel barge. I was 9 miles away from Mount Pinatubo when it errupted.

I truly enjoyed the whole 20 years and highly recommend it.

Thank you all for your service!

I need to thank you all for your service over the years. I remember, at age seven, on a Sunday Morning, hearing the radio news break report of the attack on Pearl Harbor. I was recovering from a near end of life illness at the time and when the draft got to me at the time of the Korean War I was declared unfit by the army doctors. Despite the worst that military service and war can do to a person I truly feel that I would have benefited greatly from a stint in the military. Again, heartfelt thanks to all of you that have, and are serving this and any country's armed forces.

Many years back, I took my family into a hundred year old merchantile in my dad's home town. Richard has reminded me of the words of the proprietor, an old lady in her 90's !
Great gal! She told us that one day my uncle came running in and announced that the Japs had bombed Pearl Harbor, went off and spread the news next door. Important stuff. No internet!

    I rest my case.
