    Default Wooden gun stock question..

Just picked up a 1949 model 94 Winchester 30-30. The stock has only 1 dent in it,it's not a scratch...it's a dent. Is there a way to raise the dent by steaming ..without damaging the finish ??? Thanks

I think it all depends on how DEEP the dent is....

I've seen people fix dents in wood with a steam iron.

I don't know about not damaging the finish but steaming the dent theoretically should swell the wood that has been compressed. Something like a damp cloth and an iron used with patience.

steaming dents in wood works very well, lay a wet washcloth over the dent, use an iron. may need several attempts
    it works.

    a. I've had some luck with very small dents/creases - go slow.
    b. If the dent is deep, and the surface is broken/crushed this can get uglier.
    b. more importantly - a 60+ year old model 94? Do you want to risk the finish/patina of the stock to try and erase the blemish?

At some point the scars are honest marks of character and work...
And I'm sure we would like to see some pictures....
Good luck no matter what, the classics deserve the attention...
