Carving,
This doesn't quite qualify for me as a finer thing in life but more so for my clients.
Some of you may know I am a wood carver. Here is a project that has eaten up 4 months of my life.
I was commissioned to carve two different size mouldings for some custom made Mahogany doors for a home on Park Ave. NY.
One strip was 3/4 inch wide and took 16 leaves per foot. The total length was 684 ft long which ended up getting approx. 10,984 leaves carved on it.
The second strip being 3/8 " took roughly 33 leaves per foot and being 501 ft long ate up 16,533 leaves.
I made a special vise to hold the strips of mldg. and aluminum templates to facilitate the transfer of patterns.
Here are a few shots showing what I did.
The two strips combine to make the moulding but I wasn't responsible for making the white paper design that links them together.
All for some door trim. Must be nice!

This is really neat. One of the things I like most about SRP is people sharing their projects-during the project and then finished product.

Thanks. Besides my Avatar ( Greenman) here are a few other pieces I have carved.
The kitchen shot I carved the brackets under the island unit as well as the large trees arching over the ref/freezer in the background.
I guess some of these qualify as 'finer things' . The lion is one of two for a mantle.

very nice. do you still have your sanity after carving 27 1/2 thousand leaves?
Bread and water can so easily become tea and toast

Sanity around here is a relative thing. It depends on what the basis of comparison might be.
Thanks guys.

Beautiful work. My great grandfather was a cabinetmaker and I still have a few of his pieces. You are an amazing craftsman!

As always Excellent Work, I'm never disappointed when I click on your threads. The lion is stunning, easily the best representation of a lion head I've ever seen, looks like it may move at any second.

I think a lack of sanity would be required to carve 27 1/2 thousand leaves Really great work.
I worked with a guy years ago who during lunch and coffee breaks would widdle away. The end result would be a bird, which you'd swear was real. It's nice to see people with such great talent.
