    It's ironic that the more shooting is studied & equipment is developed, the results comes full circle back to the basics. The front sight has always been the key; meaning finding the clear front sight & getting it on target has ended a lot of confrontations successfully.

    Wow - if I was ever to own and learn to use a firearm, I've always thought the .45's were the best looking hand guns I'd ever seen. The one that Patton carried was the nickel plated .45 was the one he carried wasn't it? Even the .45 Revolver is something I find really appealing.

    I've never held or fired a hand gun in my life, only time I've seen one has been on a Police Officer. But those three guns in the pic, those are the one's I'd buy if I was to ever have to choose.

    They are gorgeous, and if I'm not mistaken, there's a lot of history behind all the various .45's...

    Very nice...

    He told me that if I get in a shooting scrape, align my sights on the opponent, and squeeze the trigger, as if I was at the range, "You'll be dead." He introduced me to the concept of point shooting. I used to like to go to the range and have people notice these tight groups I was shooting while theirs looked like they had sprayed the target with a shotgun. Well when I started point shooting I wasn't bringing any targets around to brag about them, but it is getting better.

    So after all of that, the reason I really like the big dot sights is because they are ideal for point shooting. If I'm at the range to shoot tight groups, taking my time, I'll use a different weapon, but if it is point shoot drills with my carry weapon, it will be one of those two Glocks with those sights. IME the design of the rear, along with the big dot at the front, really lends itself to point shooting more than a traditionally configured sight picture. Good point. Very good point - or better yet, reminder. We are talking handguns after all. What I liked about those other sights is that they come with different coloured front and rear. I find an odd colour up front, with white in back works well for me. I think that's why I shoot my buddy's Xd so well.

    But you know... looking at that picture, how on earth couldn't the front sight jump out at you lol!! Though I am sure it looks that much bigger on a Xds. Man I liked the feel of that pistol! And it's small, which I like. But that grip safety just... well it's an irrational dislike we'll say.

    They're like razors Phrank, you'll buy one telling yourself "This is all I really need." & in a year you will have 5 more.

    Two friends just bought the XDS in 45ACP and I got a chance to try one at the range a week ago. It is a really comfortable fit for my hand, and it shot well BUT ...... the trigger was no where near as smooth and crisp as my Glocks. My buddy likes it and it is his money, but aside from the grip safety, which I don't like either, unless the trigger could be re-worked I'd never be happy with that pistol.

    Sorry Phrank, forgot to answer your question;
    Most all of the images you saw of Patton, he was not carrying a handgun like the 3 I posted, he carried 2 ivory handled revolvers,,,one was a Smith & Wesson 357 magnum ( I don't remember the model #) & a Colt 45 SAA (Single Action Army,,,what most call a cowboy style handgun), Patton actually had kills with the Colt SAA, prior to WW II.

    Thanks Hirlau - I just Googled that and found that out, I ordered 15 of them, going to have them buffed up real shiny, change the grips, and have them shipped to your place if that's OK.....

    No,,No Noooo,,,please don't do that Phrank, if you buy me a handgun then that's considered a "straw purchase" & we both go to prison,,,,,,& if that happens, I'm not bunking with you, so you better bring your own brush & razor,,,

    It would have been a model 27 but Patton's was made before S&W assigned model #s. It was then just called the 357 magnum. IIRC some interviewer asked him if the stocks on his handguns were pearl and he told him that they were ivory, he went on to say that only a pimp in a New Orleans house of ill fame would have a pearl handled grip on their handgun.
