Thread: fog and tide

A couple of picture from the marina where I work.

It was a little foggy this morning.

And then twenty minutes later

And then 6 hours later

Ah beautiful. I used to be a coxswain (small boat operator for those that don't know) in the Navy and I loved those foggy mornings with cigarettes and coffee for breakfast.

I work at a SAR station. We have a 47' MLB and a 753 Hurricane. Life begins at 40 knots!

Yeah when I was in the middle east we had some janky 21' whalers with with twin 300hp yamahas. Tilt the engines just right and if its a smooth day out (unlikely) you could get going 58-60 knots. And thats on a open center console, Hit a rogue wave and your lucky if your still in the boat. We also had some RHIBS and some Metalsharks. Same lengths and engines but at least the metal sharks were closed cabin and had seats. We had one guy break his knee from not knowing how to bends his knees when the boat hit a wave on the whalers.

That is a beautiful spot you have there, Shaun. The difference in the last two pics is dramatic. The walkway looks almost level when the tide is in.

Speaking of California...I read today that the guy that started the Rim Fire was charged on four counts.

Enjoyed my time around BCs coast on an old steamboat DDE but hated being on the harbour duty watch with those tidal runs. Miss the place every time I see pics like those. We had a couple of bosns that had been on the crash boats out of Comox and were speed freaks too.
