Kind of. What I do is dig a trench about 18"X18" the length of the row, till up the bottom of it, lay in the drip irrigation line, plant the leeks, and back fill the trench as the leeks grow. While I like the rate and ways in which Europeans eat leeks, I'm not crazy about their white asparagus. I've got a big asparagus patch, but when I pick it and eat it, it's the way God meant it to be: green.
If you find a starving dog and feed him he will not bite you. This is the principle difference between dogs and men.

Just saw this thread. Decide a couple weeks ago to plant a garden this year, probably a good idea...
This climate zone is different than any I've lived in, so I'm having to do a few things different.
We are renting, so I'm planning on growing in containers that I can move to house when we can buy one.
What's of particular interest to me right now are fruit trees and berries. Also tomatoes.
If you trim down the fruit trees just right, you end up with short, stout bush-like trees that yield full sized fruit.
You just need to find that ratio of fruit to the size of the plant. After a couple few years you have these bonsai fruit trees with gnarly trunks and branches..“You must unlearn what you have learned.”

There's a lot of crap involved in farming, Mike.
