OH has been stocking them since the 80's , there were a few strains stocked and trading of hatchery fish with MI & PA until they were able to have a strain that runs when river conditions are favorable , , most of our streams really depend on run off , and even more now that a few dams have washed out or been taken out .. it has added more fish further up the streams but also left creeks to warm and low without some rain ... I remember one year ice came off , rivers were 2 high , then cleared up and left about a week before the fish were gone ... not that im that old now but there was a time when I was younger where I couldn't stop thinking about trout , I would fish the steelhead from late September-river froze up , then fish a couple trout streams we have in ohio for browns , then fish the steelhead from ice off- they went back to the lake , then fish PA from then till hunting season , now im lucky to get out a few times in fall , then spring , and 1 week in PA ..lol..

one of my goals has been to catch a steelhead on a dry fly .. I talked to an outfitter out your way one time and he sent me drys he uses .. ive fished drys for them around here and have only had one even hit and on for about 3seconds ... and for all I know it was a smallmouth lol.. they just don't seem to like drys around here and I think it is do to all the pressure , a lot of sight fishers that beat a fish for an hour before they try to snag it so unless there laying in a hole there spooked half the time ..
