Default Son went fishing - Trout for Dinner

The boy went fishing this afternoon and came back with bounty to feed his family.

Just finished cleaning it, now going to fillet it and prepare dinner - freshly caught Rainbow Trout, nothing like it!

When I was a kid we had a cabin in Big Bear Lake, and it was full of Rainbows.

We would take a cast iron Hibachi Grill, catch em, clean em, fill the inside with some sliced length wise green onion, a dab of butter, salt and pepper and grill them whole. Ate many a trout lakeside, pan fried on a Coleman stove with a fried potatoes & eggs.

    Enjoy, that’s a nice fish.

That should be a wonderful meal.

Last weekend neighbors gave us 4 Chinook fillets caught that day. The flavor was so delicate it sort of spoiled you for store bought salmon.

    Sounds damn good.
Ironically I'm about to give some yellow perch a bubble bath in oil for dinner tonight myself, along with some fresh cut french fries

I grew up on a farm that had a river running through it. I never was around anyone who knew anything about fishing and my dad didn't fish and basically didn't do any activities with us kids, so my only experience was with a stick, a string, a cork, and a worm on a hook. The only fish I ever caught were suckers and carp, so I always released them.

The only exciting thing I ever caught was a water moccasin. Suffice to say I've never eaten anything I caught.

He's a bit pissed with me haha, told him with a great dinner that he provided, he has to come to the gym in the morning with his old man! LOL

Was a fine fish, on the BBQ wrapped in foil with some lemon olive oil, rosemary and a pinch of salt and pepper, herb and garlic rice, and a nice salad!

Just showed him this thread...he feels quite proud of himself - thanks guys!

When i lived on the other side of Lake Michigan we caught steelhead trout. IIRC, a steelhead is a big rainbow.

If true, when does a rainbow become a steelhead?
