Actually I remember in the late 1950s Real 501s were $3.25 a pair.
I had to work all summer to buy my school cloths, two pair of levis, two pendalton shirts ($12.00 ea) one pair of U.S keds ($6.00) one pair of leather dress shoes ($12.00).
Picked alot of maters and beans, cut alot of apricots just to buy school clothes

I wear American made jeans everyday. They're made by Aerostich, as motorcycle wear and they cost about $120. They're so nice though, that I wear them even off the bike. It's just a bonus that they should survive a 60mph slide on asphalt.

Pixel is right as usual. Bought my first pair of 501's in 1959 and they were $3.25. Levi's and Pendelton's were the uniform of the day.

Well, since we're staggering down memory lane: the first dungarees that I remember actually hearing about were Roebucks...I was still wearing what my parents bought me and I could care less about the brand...but a friend's older brother had Roebucks and he sat in a bathtub full of hot water then went outside to dry them (shape them) while wearing them.

You can still buy those jeans made from 14oz Selvage denim Levi's 1955 XX style in the UK they are still made on the same looms and you still have to buy them 1 inch bigger on the waste and 2 inches longer in the leg.

I've bought a few pair of these. They have held up very well and I'm satisfied with them.

Of course it was a long time ago, but I remember buying Levi jeans, when you had to get them 1"larger in the waist, and 2" longer in the length, because they all would shrink upon washing. No such thing as pre washed, stone washed or stretch jeans back in the those days. The denim was heavier if memory serves, or maybe that is just nostalgia ........ but they were $5.00 a pair and made in the good old USA.
That sounds like dry denim, there is a thread about it here from around 3 years ago and a few fora for aficionados, it seems that if you leave the first wash for 6 months min you will get interesting fade patterns. The really keen ones even buy special sewing machines.
