    Default Words-Thoughts-Quotes To Live By

I looked for an existing thread to post this in rather than create a new one, and didn't find any title that quite fit. If some moderator finds something already in existence or determines a better place, I wouldn't be offended by it being relocated to the place of your choosing. Reading what many of those here post, it seems that this is a fine accumulation of good character. Anyway, I was going through files/folders of things I've saved over the years, came on this and thought some here might find it interesting, though I'm certain many here are familiar with it, perhaps some are not and so, briefly:

It was written by a Native American named Tecumseh, of the Shawnee, (1768-1813). In his time, he was friend and foe of the Americans, but, because of what he determined was treachery, allied himself with the British in the War of 1812. Anyway, he was respected by all…Civil War General William Tecumseh Sherman's middle name, I believe another general had Tecumseh as a middle name. There have been 4-American Naval vessels named after the man. He must have been quite the guy and though he is credited with these below words in whole…it is my understanding that other famous Native Americans, Sitting Bull, Crazy Horse, etc., lived-believed accordingly. A few years ago, I saw a movie about Navy Seals, (I don't recall the name of which), and recognized this same piece that was used in the theme of that movie. Anyway, it struck me when I first read it as it parallels my way of thinking, (minus singing my death song…I simply don't have one). So, for whatever it's worth.
Tecumseh left these words to live by:
"Live your life so that the fear of death can never enter your heart...Love your life, perfect your life, and beautify all things in your life. Seek to make your life long and in the service of your people..."

"Always give a word or a sign of salute when meeting or passing a friend, even a stranger, when in a lonely place. Show respect to all people and grovel to none. When you arise in the morning give thanks for the food and for the joy of living. If you see no reason for giving thanks, the fault lies only in yourself..."

"When it comes your time to die, be not like those whose lives are filled with the fear of death, so that when time comes they weep and pray for a little more time to live their lives over again in a different way. Sing your death song and die like a hero going home."

"Say to yourself in the early morning: I shall meet today ungrateful, violent, treacherous, envious, uncharitable men. All of the ignorance of real good and ill... I can neither be harmed by any of them, for no man will involve me in wrong, nor can I be angry with my kinsman or hate him; for we have come into the world to work together..." Marcus Aurelius

I used to wonder why everyone I met on the street looked angry and sad...Then I learned to smile and my eyes then learned too.
Now, I wonder why so many folks are smiling.
