    Default Yard tractors

Ok here's a question, as most know I've spent 40 years gone all the time around the world drilling holes in the ground, since retirement I have started a garden and now want to maintain my own yard. So here's the topic so that you guys in the know can give opinions.(no glen I don't have a homestead so I don't need a big one!)

yard tractors, I've narrowed it down to 3 I like
all in 24-26 hp with hydrostatic drive
    John Deere
    Cub Cadet
    Husquavarna
Ok let me hear your thoughts, I have decided against zero turn stick steers in favor of the tractor type, it will be a mule fire other things also, i.e. Dump bed, lawn sweeper, etc. and from the info I,m getting on hilly applications the stick steer isn't as stable. Oh and I will be mowing 3/4 acre, so let the ideas come back in, I,m open to all those who have been mowing their yard, thus us new to me. Tc

    Sub-Compact

A small Deere E 1-2 Family , Kubota BX, Mahindra Emax etc:

Trust me here TC if possible you REALLY want a 3pt hitch a Cat 1 as it will fit the most implements
A deck mower is easiest for you
And get a FEL you will use it, you really will

The smaller sub-compacts are not hugely more expensive then a good Lawn Tractor and are WAY WAY more capable

Now to be honest my Kubota is to big for the lawn and I use a ZeroTurn, it chopped the cutting time in half compared to the old lawn tractor and I have yet to shift it into high hehehehe I cut about 1.5 -2 acres of grass

I agree with Glen. Front end loader is a must. I've had a JD 1025R for a few years and it's been a big help. The mower deck and snow blower round it out usefully.

Ok what's an FEL? I guess buying something that has other capabilities would be a good suggestion, although not sure what I'd do with a front loader, but maybe I could expend the scope of my yard! Tc

    FEL = Front End Loader..

It is really amazing what you end up using them for once you have them, ie: they ain't just for moving dirt, rock & snow

I swear I don't lift anything over 100# any longer without mine

Good judgment comes from experience, and experience....well that comes from poor judgment.
