I have about 6 inches of St Augustine and clover! Not with my current sinus infection, however!

Sharptonn, Atrazine is your friend and one of the primary herbicides to control broadleaf weeds in St.Augustine.
It was the active weed killer in weed & feeds for St Augustine for the past few decades. Over the years there have been a few changes in weed and feeds, (government at work to protect us from ourselves) and their not as effective as they once were.

    Back to Atrazine:
It’s a wonderful product due to its both pre, and post emergence capabilities. Kills what’s there, and stops seeds from germinating for a little while.
I think it can still be found in liquid form (home owners variety), and is reasonably inexpensive. Makes it great for spot spraying areas.
It will clean up that Wandering Jew looking weed in your post on the first page of this thread, and also clover without too much of a problem.

Early Spring, late fall, and winter are the safest times of the year to apply. You want to use it before the mean temperature goes above the low to med 80s. I’ve pushed the envelope on the temp thing, but dilution, ratio, and sunlight exposure all play into the formula. In other words, in most parts of Texas, you want to get it done sooner than later, especially considering the time of year. For some parts of Texas it may be to late, but not if it were my lawn.

It does not distinguish between Broadleaf weeds, Broadleaf trees, or broadleaf bushes, it has detrimental effects on all of them. So keep it away from anything you like. It’s an equal opportunity killer.

I just set out a half dozen Poblano bushes and I planted a bed of jalapeno seeds too. Two of last year's tomato plants made it through the winter and one even threw flowers and there are a couple of tomatoes on it. The bananas got savaged by the strong winds we had over the winter but I am hoping they throw flowers by the fall and if the winter is kind, maybe we will get a bunch of bananas or two. We never got a freeze this past winter and I am hoping it doesn't freeze next winter either. Tomato plants that were set out a couple weeks ago got trampled by some animal, probably a coon. The one survivor now has a wire cage around it.

Thanks, Man! I will check it out!
This stuff all began as Scotts changed their Southern Weed and Feed several years ago. Being a 35 year user, I noted that it went from pink granules to pink and white. did not take out the weeds, clover. Crab grass is awful and this malady began. I finally googled it and everyone in the South was pissed.
It seems they changed the formula back in Florida early-on, but not elsewhere.
Wrote an email to them explaining how long I had used the product and results after the formula change and got a condescending form letter telling me how to use it.
Pissed me off, so went to Lowes and bought some Bayer stuff and promptly destroyed 1/3 of my lawn by not reading the label and overdoing it.
Bought some sod and worked super hard and have it all going again after a year.

Kindof sad after so many years of success to have these issues. I have also noted that in my old neighborhood, the gentrification and rentals have produced neighbors who pay to have their lawn scalped every week and don't care to apply or are so environmentally weird that they think weeds and such are 'natural' and Weed/feed is bad for the 'environment', even when responsibly applied. Tough to get things under control as all your neighbors are seeding your lawn with the crap.
TBH, I have noted that the Mexican fellows with their lawn crews tend to glare as they drive by and I am doing it myself!
I will experiment with the Altrazine in some bare corners where this crazy vine is and see what's up. Odd thing is there will be a huge patch in the middle of the yard. I really think birds are dropping it on the way to the nest? I also wonder how much stuff rides-in on the neighbor's lawn crews mowers from elsewhere.
I did note that the Scotts is now all-pink again, so perhaps they have swallowed their pride and changed it back.
Results seem to be a bit better as trying it now.
Would be nice to find something which will get the invaders and NOT the grass. Spot-app sounds like the key!
    Thanks again!

Yep. That’s pretty much how it happened.
I used to use Scott’s bonus S religiously in the fall and spring until it quit working, and then went to straight fertilizer, and liquid atrazine.
Now for your crab grasses Asulox is your summer friend. But good luck finding it. Unless you’re taking someone fishing that’s in the sugarcane industry or a golf course superintendent.
Remember with application of most herbicides. Wait three weeks for results.

Size: 61.7 KBDon’t know what I’ll use but Scott’s has been doing my lawn forever. Or joe it’s called tru green. I will have to go get my own stuff I guess since I’m retired and cutting my lawn myself.

But this is what it looks like so hopefully I get the right stuff I was going to use the scotts seeing as that’s who was doing it

Looks good, Tc! Have to cut mine longer, though. Once my sinus infection has cleared I will get out and do mine and get a pic on.
Looks better than it has for 3 years. Just needs a detail at the moment.

And Sl8r, Thanks! I got a full garbage can of crabgrass out with a pointed hoe. Starting to see the stragglers I missed.
Will get them before I mow again now that I can see them!
