Jerry, I always called those things window wipers. Seems they are window sweeps.
Get the length and measurements and start looking at GM cars and trucks. Without getting shot, that is....
Pretty simple thing. Too long is good? Maybe some Camaro or pickup.
Check sweeps on the bay.

Thanks, Tom. I did find the actual ones on eBay for 125.00 each. But at that price, I'd want them installed too. lol.
I will do as ya say and look into other chevys. It's a great idea. If I can find a vehicle that looks right I can cut them down.
I will be headed to a junkyard soon. I can measure the dimensions of mine and start comparing them.
And having the proper name helps a bunch! It's just Sharpening, right?

You are doing a seriously good job on that car! I wish I had half of your skills!

I was just looking at that smashed rear quarter glass and It made me think back,
Years ago when I was still in England I heard a noise one night while i was in bed.
I got up and looked out the window and two lads had smashed the same glass for some reason and were trying to reach around to unlock the back door I suppose.
I quickly got my trousers on and chased them for as long as I could with bare feet but I digress.
I took the car into a windscreen place and they told me that rather than order a replacement window, because it didn't have to go up and down they could replace it with perspex.
It cost me much less, was fixed on the spot and worked as well as glass for the rest of the time I had the car.
Just a thought.- - Steve

Thanks for the idea, Steve.
But I called My window guys yesterday. I'm scheduled for Friday. A new front windshield installed will 180.00.
He told me that the quarter window is incapsulated, tinted, and tempered. That glass installed is 360.00. But he contacted his used parts guy and I got a perfectly good one used for 65.00. And Installation will be 80.00.
I will be saving 60.00 in labor and 175.00 in parts.
As far as skills go Kees,
What I know about cars is from being a kid and turning a wrench for a few years. And the fact I wanted to drive but I couldn't afford to pay someone to fix my vehicle. That makes you learn the hardway. I find it enjoyable but my body argues with me. If I was a whole man and not temporarily disabled I'd do a lot more.
Like this Sunday I have my dumb-ass stepson coming over to change the struts and shocks while I clean rims and keep an eye on him. Doing struts and shocks one-handed is not very possible.Last edited by Gasman; 03-31-2022 at 01:36 PM.

I had an idea last night.
the little spot where someone had scraped through the clear coat by rubbing a yellow pole, I'm thinking the wife should have clear fingernail polish.
maybe a coat of that would help seal it back up to keep bad things from starting from the weather.
I'm also getting to the point I may be buying the proper Sweeps for the door glass. I haven't given up yet on finding something else to make work but...It's just Sharpening, right?

Thanked: 315If you have a parts yard where you pull parts yourself, that type of thing is pretty cheap. Also good for replacing little interior parts that get often get broken.
I've been wanting to get a little plastic welding pen to try and fix a couple things.- Joshua

Thats a good idea, definately worth looking at the scrap yard for window rubbers.
In England we don't change the brake disks (rotors) when we change the pads, never actually unless there's something wrong with them.
My brake disk cracked once so i went to the scap yard, found the same car and took it off myself. It cost next to nothing and I put it on so couple of quid and done.- - Steve

I am taking the wife to Costco this morning and then Going to Pull-a-Part. The local car junkyard. So yep, This is the plan.
I looked up their website and they have 6 cars like mine. One just came in 2 days ago so the odds are decent in finding the sweeps. I'm also in need of a door seal. The part that goes in the jam and possibly an aftermarket stereo. The bezel/trim that goes around the heater controls and stereo has cracks in it where someone wasn't as gentle as they should have been when replacing the stereo, so I may see about that too.
Boy, Aint the internet neet! I remember as a kid you just went to every junkyard around and walked the rows looking to see if there was a car that might have the parts you want. lol. It's just Sharpening, right?
